Orthodontists are part of the specialty branch of dentistry that is concerned with the correct alignment of the teeth and jaw. The misaligned jaw and teeth may make teeth unsightly and make cleaning more difficult, which will contribute to gum and tooth decay. As such, there are many different ways the jaw and teeth can be misaligned. Common ailments include; overbite, under-bite, mid-bite, spacing, crowding and more. Because of the multitude of tooth and jaw disorders, we at Cano Dental offer a multitude of solutions.
In order to get your smile as straight as can be, we offer many different options. The severity of your condition will determine what steps we perform to correct your teeth. These can range from fixed appliances like braces to removable ones, like aligners and space maintainers. Come see our Cano Health Orthodontists for a consultation on how best to make your smile as neat and as perfect as can be.
Braces are the most common fixed appliances, braces consist of bands, wires and/or brackets. Bands are fixed around the teeth or tooth and used as anchors for the appliance, while brackets are most often bonded to the front of the tooth. Arch wires are passed through the brackets and attached to the bands. Tightening the arch wire puts tension on the teeth, gradually moving them to their proper position.
As an alternative to traditional braces for adults, serial aligners are being used by an increasing number of orthodontists to move teeth in the same way that fixed appliances work, only without metal wires and brackets. Aligners are virtually invisible and are removed for eating, brushing and flossing. Cano Dental Orthodontists most commonly use Invisalign clear aligners.
Cano Health’s orthodontists will use removable retainers for some of our patients. These are worn on the roof of the mouth and prevent shifting of the teeth to their previous position. Removable retainers offer the advantage of easy use. Simply put a removable retainer in at night and take it out in the morning. Regardless of your retainer schedule, you’ll be able to enjoy some time with no retainer.
Our Cano Health Dental Specialists want to see you grinning with pride at your new teeth to come. That’s why we offer free consultations for orthodontic procedures, so that you can know how best to get the smile that you desire.
